Why Governments Regulate The Health Care Industry Economics Essay

Why Governments Regulate The Health Care Industry Economics Essay In the initial segment of the paper we characterize showcase disappointment and take a gander at the model of impeccable market, we at that point contrast this and human services market and discover the causes or figures that outcomes disappointment in the social insurance advertise. In the second part we will take a gander at the manners in which governments in four distinct nations have interceded to guarantee that the reasons for the market disappointment are amended. Market disappointment can characterized as a circumstance whereby there is an inability to accomplish an effective assignment of assets inside the market economy. An essential issue with the idea of market disappointment, as financial specialists infrequently perceive, is that it depicts a circumstance that exists all over (Nelson, 1987; Dahlman, 1979). There are various types of market that exist in the general public with the ideal market and syndication at the limits and the others in the middle of this range. Impeccable Market The ideal market model likewise alluded to as an ideal rivalry is the most significant model since it serves a benchmark from which different sorts of market can be seen. The fundamental target of any firm in the market is to amplify benefit and the cost of the products and enterprises are dictated by advertise powers. The ideal market depends on the accompanying presumptions; There is full data, The exchanges are unoriginal, There are no boundaries to passage or exit, There are numerous purchaser and merchants, and they can't impact the market cost, The items are homogenous which implies that the purchasers can't separate between items. At long last the products are private merchandise. For what reason is social insurance showcase extraordinary? The main explanation behind this is medicinal services is an open decent which is not the same as a private decent as found in the ideal market model, open great has two highlights, non-rivalrous which implies that the utilization of it by one individual doesn't prevent another from profiting by it, and it is non-excludable this implies it will hard to keep individuals from getting a charge out of the advantages. With open great there is what is known as a free-rider issue individuals won't pay for them since others are happy to pay for them. The idea of open products represents an issue for the market in light of the fact that the private part won't cause a benefit from their arrangement since everybody to can appreciate it whether they pay or not. Human services is additionally an open decent and under arrangement of it likewise prompts showcase disappointment. Human services is likewise a legitimacy decent that society esteems and accepts that individuals ought to have them since utilization is accepted to produce positive externalities-this will be talked about in the following section just as different reasons for showcase disappointment. Reasons for advertise disappointment in human services 1. Externalities Externalities additionally alluded to as outsider impacts happen when others are influenced by the exchange emerging from the creation and utilization of human services for which the expenses or advantages are not taken into account. The center of the contention against showcase disappointment investigation is gotten from the investigation of exchanges. (Zerbe et al p7).Whenever there is an exchange externalities are known to happen which prompts exchange costs. This is characterized as the assets important to move, set up and keep up property rights. The property rights was created by R H Coase where he expressed that people structure firms to decrease exchange costs. Externalities may emerge in various manners and they might be either positive (valuable) or negative (destructive), and can be during creation or utilization. Instances of negative externality is smoking which brings about outside expenses on an outsider latent smoking and furthermore liquor ingestion can prompt solitar y conduct. Immunization against irresistible sicknesses is a type of constructive externality where an individual is sure of assurance by the utilization of someone else. A case of outside expense of creation is by means of contamination from an industry and outer advantages of creation is the patent rights given to firm that found another medication, preventing every other firm from duplicating the items. When there are externalities in social insurance this won't prompt an ideal market thus advertise disappointment will happen. The externalities talked about so far can be alluded to as egotistically persuaded. There is externality alluded to as mindful externality which happens when people get individual fulfillment from realizing that an individual is getting the medicinal services they need. Externalities are around us consistently yet they are not considered at whatever point there is an exchange, this is on the grounds that property rights are not very much characterized. Soci al insurance isn't claimed by anybody so in this manner there is financial motivator to ensure it and the main way the property rights can be all around characterized and secured will be through government guideline for example by forbidding smoking in broad daylight places and furthermore making immunizations mandatory. Indeed, even with government enactment it is hard to accomplish this. (Zerbe,1976,1980;Medema and Zerbe,1999a),in a world wherein property rights are completely indicated and in which exchange costs are zero, the allotment of assets will be effective. This sort of world doesn't exist, this means showcase disappointment will consistently happen. 2. Blemished data Financial aspects is worried about the proficient utilization of constrained profitable assets to achieve the most extreme fulfillment of our material needs (Jackson and McConnell, 1985, p3), this includes executing parties using these assets to meet and fulfill their needs. This depends on the suspicion that the gatherings have full data about the products and ventures being purchased or sold and furthermore about one another. These suppositions portray a market where there is flawless data (Stiglitz, 1993).In the medicinal services there is defective data as well as data asymmetry. Data asymmetry can be characterized (utilizing the securing of medical coverage as a traditional model) as circumstance whereby customer that needs to get a medical coverage has more nitty gritty data about himself than the insurance agency. Defective data is the situation of a doctor who has more information than patients. The vulnerability of disease and the expense of it when it emerges is one the chi ef explanations behind taking medical coverage. Two issues emerge at whatever point there is protection spread; these are unfriendly determination and good danger. Data asymmetry and antagonistic choice was first depicted by George Akerlof in quite a while article, The market for lemons: Quality, Uncertainty and the Market Mechanism. Unfavorable choice is regularly alluded to as a concealed data issue in a market, where for instance dealers may find out about an item than a client. (Estrin and Laidler). During the 1980s, when HIV/AIDS was first found insurance agencies experienced antagonistic determination as a ton on people with this illness took expanded protection spread without unveiling their status. This prompted the proposal that hereditary testing ought to be utilized for people who may wish to secure wellbeing insurance. The idea moral risk was first characterized by the French business analyst Dreze in 1961 (Mooney 1994, p 135), yet it is regularly depicted as a shrouded a ctivity since it brings about conduct changes in patients once their normal misfortunes are secured by medical coverage. Ehrlich and Becker (1972) recognized ex bet and ex post moral risk. The previous happen in a solid state when people can take part in preventive consideration, for example, customary activities and great dietary patterns and the last when the individual is sick, however since the wellbeing be it tax assessment or different types of medical coverage which permits a sponsor cost or free at the purpose of utilization, there is a more prominent interest by the patient than it will be if the patient was to pay all the expenses. Donaldson and Gerard (1993, p 31), comments, thus, the market neglects to transmit productive value signs to purchasers. Donaldson and Gerrard (1993) recognized two kinds of supplier moral danger. They recognize moral peril by specialists who are recognizable on-screen characters in the human services framework and furthermore moral danger by clinics. Specialists are known to follow up in the interest of the patients both as the demander and provider of administrations and don't represent the expense. First on the gracefully side they are the supplier of medicinal services and on the interest side there is data asymmetry. There are diverse repayment which influences specialists perspectives and two that influences the patients mentalities ( charges to patients, private practice).Provider moral risk happens most regularly with the expense for-administration (FFS) repayment specialists are paid on the amount of administrations; more administrations will bring about a higher salary. Accordingly there is a monetary impetus for doctors to give care in abundance of what the patients may require in the event that they had full data. There isn't a lot of writing on clinic moral danger so this can be a territory for future turn of events. 3. Blemished rivalry The ideal market give the best methods for ensuring that the economy is effective by urging firms to contend and furthermore making decision. These conditions for productivity fill in as a benchmark to help distinguish wellsprings of allocative wastefulness alluded to as market disappointments. Be that as it may, in reality the ideal market doesn't exist as Hausman contended, when taken actually, the thought of market disappointment is of little significance, on the grounds that consummately serious balance, the benchmark against which market come up short, doesn't get. In spite of this the serious market have been utilized on the presumptions on which it was framed, as Amelia Fletcher, Director of Markets and Policies Initiatives remarked, Competition is a rivalrous procedure, where firms contend successfully to give the purchasers a superior arrangement. The inquiry is that is this possible in human services with the vulnerability that encompasses sick wellbeing? The fi

I can tell that we are gonna be friends (part 1)

I can tell that we are gonna be friends (part 1) Soremember that time, way back at the end of first semester, when I went to take my 8.012 final exam and had a sort-of-awkward encounter with Alan Guth? If you dont, quick synopsis: my section hadnt received our exams when the test started, so (all stressed out) I ran up to a random proctor and explained the situation; he suggested that I was in the wrong building, which irked me (in the wrong building for my first final exam at MIT? please.) and I informed him that um, yes. 8.012 is DEFINITELY in this building, and we DEFINITELY do not have exams. Ten seconds later, I realized that the random proctor looked familiar because he was the father of the inflationary theory of the universe and figured, in a stunned daze, that this would be the closest I would get to a one-on-one conversation with him. Apparently not. Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago, when I was staying at my friend Daniels house in New Jersey. I opened my computer, and found an e-mail that read: Professor Alan Guth has agreed to serve as your advisor. Please use him as a resource for helping you make the most of your time at MIT, and for working towards completion of your Physics degree. Please do stop by and see your advisor on registration day. I shrieked and slammed my computer shut. I sheepishly opened it up again, re-read the e-mail, and confirmed that it still said Alan Guth. At the bottom of the e-mail, Professor Guths e-mail address, fax number, phone number, office number, and home address* were listed. *That part is a lie. I do not actually have Alan Guths home address. However, its worth mentioning that for a number of people here, office number and home address are not entirely distinct. At this point, Ill take a little detour and explain the student side of how advisors are assigned, at least in the physics department. I had to send in a form and indicate: 1) Whether Im more interested in experimental or theoretical physics (or whether Im not sure yet/have no strong preference) 2) Whether I have an interest in astrophysics, and/or atomic and optical physics, and/or biophysics, and/or condensed matter physics, and/or particle physics, and/or plasma physics, and/or other, or am not sure yet/have no strong preference. 3) What advice I hope to receive from my advisor (ex. course requirements, how to plan a career in physics, finding a UROP) I honestly dont remember what I put, but I do know that I specified an interest in astrophysics, which is probably a large part of the reason I was assigned Alan Guth. Anyway, detour over. My immediate response to the message from the physics department was to e-mail my mom. I quote: OH MY GOD. I JUST GOT AN E-MAIL FROM THE PHYSICS DEPARTMENT. ALAN GUTH IS MY ADVISOR. I. AM. FREAKING. OUT. I sprinted downstairs, came to a screeching halt 2 millimeters from the screen door (phew), flung it open, and waved my hands in the air like a crazy person. Daniels mom: Shes excited about something! Affirmative. I spewed exclamations (no idea if they were even words) for a couple of minutes, before Daniel interrupted with: do you think hell remember you as the girl who yelled at him at the 8.012 final? Correction. I did not yell at Alan Guth. I just firmly requested that I receive my exam paper. Another friend responded to my news with Hell yeah. Downside is, he might be too busy to advise (?) I admit that the thought had crossed my mind lurking somewhere beneath the this is the greatest thing ever! I began having second thoughts. Lets be honest: Alan Guth is probably a very busy man. According to his faculty page, he has explored the question of whether it is in principle possible to ignite inflation in a hypothetical laboratory, thereby creating a new universe and Im going to ask him to take the time to explore, with me, the question of whether it is in principle possible to major in physics, fulfill pre-med requirements, do UROPs in observatories and labs, then go on to medical school and become a neurologist. In one very-not-hypothetical lifetime. Hes unravelling the fabric of the cosmos, and Im going to walk into his office and unravel into a babbling incoherent mess about how I think everything is interesting and dont know what to do with my life and can barely decide what flavor of ice cream to get, let alone pick classes. Uhright. What if thats just an annoying chore for him, to do along with his *actual, world-changing* work? I expressed my concern to a couple of physics upperclassmen earlier this week, when we were sitting in a room grading the 8.01 Advanced Standing Examination. Me: Sodoes anyone here have Alan Guth as an advisor? *Silence* Random Girl: Wait, WHAT? GUTH? Dude. GUTH IS THE MAN. Me: is he? Random Girl: YES. GUUUUUTH! Me: Random Guy: I took a class with him. Me: Is he nice? Random Guy: Oh, yeah. Hes a really nice guy. Really friendly. Random Girl: Yes! Hes SO nice, and really helpful! GUTH IS THE MAN! That was a huge relief to hear. I guess I wont know any of this for sure until the school year begins and I actually begin meeting with him but I have hope. Earlier today, I got an e-mail from Alan about our first advising meeting. He signed the e-mail Alan. Eek.  Maybe Ill waltz in on Sept 6 and say ALAN! Hello, Alan. Can I call you Al? On second thoughts, maybe I wont, because he might not catch my reference to the movie Aladdin. Apologies for all the fangirlism, but Im really excited.

Racial Discrimination Effect on Labor Market Essay

A number of factors such as age, gender, education level, and economic climate impact the rates of employment and average wages in the United States. Race and ethnicity are two additional characteristics, which –ostensibly – are not to be, considered in hiring and wage determination processes yet which continue to have tremendous effect on employment in this country. In an effort to better understand how these attributes contribute to the job climate, our term paper will examine the effects of ethnicity on wages and employment rates in the United States. The U.S. population is extremely diverse, including people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds such as Native Americans (mainly Whites), African Americans, Asian Americans and Hispanic†¦show more content†¦Minorities belonging to these groups have historically experienced difficulty being promoted to leadership or managerial positions, and have experienced high unemployment rates as a whole. While less recognized, reverse racial discrimination has also been reported in recent years, involving situations in which Whites complained of being racially discriminated against. As Affirmative Action and other initiatives sought to level the playing field and more equally represent racial minority groups in the job market, Whites began to feel as though their skin color was preventing employment. Affirmative Action, for example, resulted in a number of vocal Whites protesting that jobs were given to applicants belonging to the minority group even when White applicants possessed more qualifications. Interestingly, this directly mirrors the discrimination reported by non-Whites throughout the ages. The laws and movements against racial discrimination The Civil Rights Act of 1964 made it illegal for an employer to discriminate against an individual based on race, color, religion and sex. The Act also resulted in the formation of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) that sought to enforce laws preventing racial discrimination (Algernon). While the Civil Rights Act brought tremendous change to the face of the U.S. labor market, the spirit of the Act has yet to be fully realized and minority groups still experience discrimination in employment,Show MoreRelatedRacial Discrimination Effect on Labor Market2767 Words   |  12 PagesThe earliest form of racial discrimination against Asian Americans was encountered during the California Gold Rush. My Role Model Free Essays

MY ROLE MODEL Almost everyone has a role model in their life. They could be a parent, a friend, a teacher, or a sports hero. They could be the D. We will write a custom essay sample on My Role Model or any similar topic only for you Order Now A. R. E officer who works in your school. He could be someone you read about in a book. A role model is hard to define, because it can be different for everyone. Who your role model is depends as much on you as it does on the person you admire. Often, it is someone you would like to be like when you get older, or someone who does something you find hard to do. They might be somebody who performs outstanding volunteer work. They might be a community leader. They might be your mentor. Maybe they are generous and kind. Maybe they performed an extraordinary feat or accomplishment. They might be someone in your neighborhood, or someone in another country. Typically, a role model is brave, smart, strong, kind, thoughtful and fun. Not that every role model is perfect. Unless it is someone out of a storybook, role models are people who might be outstanding in only one or two areas. Or maybe it is someone who is far less than perfect, but is working to improve himself or herself. I personally believe that a good role model should have certain qualities, and he should†¦ * Have a good personality * Be humble * Be respectable * Be ambitious When we had to choose a role model, one name appeared clearly in my head. I didn’t see, and couldn’t see, anyone else but Gandhi. Indeed, in my opinion, it’s this man who gives meaning to the expression, â€Å"role model. † I don’t think there’s a more charismatic role model in history. Indeed, he accomplished such important and brave things that he must be one of the most well-known heroes in the world. Gandhi was born in India in 1869 during the period of colonies. He lived under the English occupation and, as a consequence, suffered from oppression and the authority of colonists. However, what disturbed him the most was the fact that his country, or rather his nation, couldn’t make decisions by itself anymore and hope to evolve and grow. Gandhi, who was lucky to have been educated, was the first man in this painful period who dared to refuse the British authority using pacifist methods. Indeed, boycotts and other peaceful ways like hunger strikes enabled India to get its independence from the United Kingdom. As far as I am concerned, Gandhi is really an exemplary man. I feel that Gandhi was a positive role model in society because he enabled India to get its independence, but his influence didn’t stop at this moment. his ideas of independence kept on living beyond the borders and reached all the other colonized countries. His influence was such that many nations took their independence just after India did. Thanks to him, all of those people were able to hope again and, in my opinion, it’s one of the qualities that the definition of a role model requires. If we followed his example in life, we would stop killing each other and, instead, discuss and resolve problems together without useless violence. It may take a long time, but I think it’s worth trying. All of this shows that Gandhi is actually someone who can be considered as a role model. He was both brave and intelligent. Indeed, not only was he courageous because he defied the authorities, but he was also talented because he didn’t use physical strength to get what he wished. All in all, for my part, Gandhi must be considered as one of the most important personalities history has ever known. I think he deserves to have this status How to cite My Role Model, Essay examples

Answer: Introduction: The protective privacy measures of digital data security that is used to prohibit the access of unauthorized users to databases, websites and computers. The data is saved from corruption with the help of data security. A very important aspect of Information Technology organization is the data security (Chang Ramachandran, 2016). From a large organization to a small organization, all industry needs data security. Data security is also known by other names, that is computer security or information security. The technology of data security helps to keep the backups, ensure data and also helps in masking of data. Encryption is a major technology in security technology where software or hardware, hard drives and digital data are encrypted and they are protected from the unauthorized hackers and users. Authentication is another most common method that is practiced in data security. For authentication, the user must give a code, password, biometric data and other data for the verification of access to the system. In health care fields there is use of data security. EMR (electronic medical record) privacy is a new data privacy control of data security that is been used in many countries like Australia in U.S. the EMR creates awareness related to patients rights about release of data to physicians, hospitals, laboratories and some other medical facilities that are related to the patients. Common findings on data security from the articles (Quantitative, Qualitative and mixed) According to Sun et al. (2014), it has been researched that only 28.34% of the organizations are secured without the data security. Other remaining organization uses some or the other data security processes for the security of network. To overcome these drawbacks of the network protocol and the performance in them, security protocols are evaluated. Assuming the certificate authority, all the protocols were developed. This certificate authority maintains the certificate of all the protocols. One of the major concerns of computer network is security. As stated by Erlich Narayanan (2014), as the passing days, the security is becoming more complicated and the security level increases with the increase in security. New challenges have been faced by the wireless devices for the security of data for exchange of information because of drawback of bandwidth and power. To give authentication, integrity and confidentiality of the data over network of computer, powerful algorithms have been developed. Outside the traditional social sciences, quantitative research has become famous especially in development of international research development and public health. According to Creswell Poth (2017), Quantitative research methods are been dominated in the present days. For this reason, researchers have started to think of more vast methods because they are used in international problems of public health. Quantitative methods gives important aspects regarding the data security, making it an important part of research that is been held out. From quantitative approach we can get the contextually rich and specific data culturally that is been produced. The data that is been achieved by the quantitative approach provides solutions for the problems regarding public health to develop countries, medical doctors, humanitarian organizations and many more. Using both the approaches together, the limitation of one approach is compensated by the limitation of the other approach (Yang et al., 2013). When used together, the data are balanced by strength of other. This helps to integrate many ways of knowing the data. Most of the evaluations are done by collecting the quantitative and the qualitative approaches. Different findings on data security (Quantitative, Qualitative and mixed) According to Taha et al. (2013), any findings are still evaluated that calculate the quantitative findings on the study of data security. The data in quantitative research can be analyzed in numbers in a quantitative research. Quantitative uses the use of data that are numerical which describes the security of the data. The researches that are achieved from the quantitative approach more readily analyzed and are interpreted. The approach of quantitative method is more time taking, stressful and harder. It is an empirical research where data is not in form of numbers (Cao et al., 2014). The quantitative analysis of data security shows graphs; pictures and other pictorial format where the need of data security is needed in many of the organization can be seen. People who is serious about their research and want to prepare the research for commitment uses this quantitative approach of data security. Most of the researchers use the mixed approach analysis to do the research of data security (Zhang, Chang Yap, 014). In mixed approach, the finding that is got from the qualitative approach is cross checked against the quantitative approach to get the exact information regarding the data security. Limitations and how the methods differ across the various study designs In quantitative approach, it is difficult to control the variable and rule out the process of data security because human nature always keeps on changing. For the research, it is difficult to get the human response properly. It hampers in succession of the research. As stated by Kang et al. (2015), Quantitative analysis excludes moral responsibility, freedom and choice of the data security. Quantitative analysis can end in its own self. Peoples ability that is unique is not taken into consideration in quantitative analysis. Quantitative analysis takes the account of the people consideration as a whole. It shows that the facts that are taken are true and are considered as the information that is presented is true for all the people taken into consideration. Trivial and banal findings that are produced in quantitative research those have very small consequence because of variables that are controlled. The research is objective totally because the involvement of the researchers is subje ctive. The object of the researchers is to interpret the results and worthy of investigation. According to Sun et al. (2016), the problem of reliability and validity in adequate number is the major drawback of the quantitative analysis. Conventional standards of validity and reliability are difficult to apply in quantitative analysis. The changing of situations, conditions, interactions and context cannot be applied in quantitative analysis because they are represented pictorially. The Quantitative analysis is time taking. The time taken to analyze, interpret and data collecting is very time taking. There involves a great effect of the researchers on what subjects they are researching upon. For selecting the findings, there comes an issue of confidentiality and anonymity. The researcher and the organization should have the same common viewpoint as the considerations contradict many times. There is a great involvement in the mixed approach of data security. The organizations and researchers use mixed approach on the research of data security (Crawford Schultz, 2014). This helps to make the data the has been researched more accurate and also takes less time in completing the research. As data security is most important part of an organization to keep the data secure from all the threats, classification of data can be done. The data can be classified into various groups so that the research that the data can be found easily by the staffs of the organization. This also helps the researchers to research about the data in an easy way. References Cao, N., Wang, C., Li, M., Ren, K., Lou, W. (2014). Back to Black by Amy Winehouse free essay sample

Amy Winehouse was well known to be a troubled rebel. What some people don’t see is how talented this young artist was. Her â€Å"Back to Black† Album won five Grammys. She had an advantage of getting introduced to jazz music early on in life by her dad, which really influenced her way of communicating with the world through music. The album was filled with stunning and deep songs that highlighted her talents as well as her troubles. â€Å"Rehab† was Amy’s most popular single off the album. Glee even did a cover of the song in their first season. It’s no secret to why the song got so popular, it was so intriguing. So many people have a connection to the song. â€Å"Rehab† was composed because Amy Winehouse’s management company wanted her to get help with her drinking problem. Her dad made a statement that she didnt have a drinking problem â€Å" my daddy thinks I‘m fine. Most of the songs on the album are an imprint of her breakup. â€Å"Me and Mr. Jones† was influenced by Billy Pauls song â€Å"Me and Mrs. Jones†. This 60’s inspired song, which her gloomy voice is perfect for, also had something to do with her boyfriend like â€Å"Rehab† did.She used another artists song to express her feelings about her boyfriend cheating on her. Amy being able to add her style to a song is one of her many talents that most musicians will never succeed at doing. Amy’s vocabulary is extraordinary. She has a way with words, another talent of hers. â€Å"Tears Dry On Their Own†, like the other songs, was about her boyfriend leaving her for his ex girlfriend. â€Å" I’ll be some next man’s other woman soon† is saying that she is always the second choice. She later ended up marrying the man this song was about. Amy Winehouse wasnt the best at making decisions, most of us arent, but she was a great singer and songwriter. All her songs have a deeper meaning. When listening to the album it feels like it was make in the 60’s, not 2006, when the album was released. Thanks to her dad, she sang blues until the day she died of alcohol poisoning on July 23, 2011. Only 27, her talent was taken away so soon and will be missed. â€Å"Back To Black† captured her talents so they can be heard forever.

Personal Application of Criminology

Personal Application of Criminology work together in their group and therefore he cannot deny being a friend to the boy. He explained that the boy is bright in class and helps him to improve on the things that he has not understood well from their teacher. For this reason, he decided to make him a school friend but he has nothing to do with him when it comes to home activities. Since I was not convinced I went further and asked my son to tell me what he know about his friend and if they participate in the same activities. I am not very sure about his lifestyle because most our activities are school centered, he said. From this information, I understood my son was uninformed. This made me to think of the second option of investigation. Getting more investigation from my sons friends After trying my best to gather information and failed, I requested my son to tell me some of his friends that could be more close to the boy so that I can get more information. My son did not hesitate this. He told me and even took his time to take me to where they were. Actually, this was great because it really helped me to gather more information. We got one of my sons friends Jimmy whom I had a talk with, in the talk I asked Jimmy if he knows that boy well and what they shared in common. Jimmy explained that they had known one another recently, and he therefore had little information about him. He went ahead and told me that in spite of the fact that they had known one another recently, he was able to observe that the boy was friendly. Besides this, his jovial face and good performance in class made them friendly. On the other hand, he had recently discovered that boy looked so secretive. He was not ready to open up to friends, and carried out most of his activities silently. This answer made me to be more inquisitive. I wanted to know what kind of secrets the boy had so that I can come up with better establishment of criminal activities. It forced me to ask Jimmy explain exactly what he meant by saying the boy is secretive, and what kind of secret did he keep. Jimmy told me that he sat next to him in class and he seemed to have too much money but on asking him, he was not ready to tell where he gets it. Jimmy also noted that the boy may sometimes look restless and he would say he is going to take some medicine. After sometime, he comes back to class relieved and with a jovial face but if Jimmy was to ask what kind of disease he suffered and medicine prescription from a doctor he could no tell. Jimmys statement pressed me had, that I could not hesitate digging deeper. I therefore, ask Jimmy to tell me any other friend that knows the boy better. Jimmy then decided to tell and show me one of the closest friends of the boy called Wayne. I got Wayne and discussed this issue. While discussing with Wayne he told me that apart from being friends they were also close neighbors. He added that even though he is a close neighbor he is not his close friend. I still did not get tired of my investigation, I therefore asked Wayne to tell me why the boy was not his close friend. He said that the boy hardily stayed at home, he would have his day spent out of his home and comes late in the evening. This character was contrary to what Waynes parents expected and therefore this made them have a distant friendship relationship. This was not enough to make my investigation. I therefore demanded that Wayne tells me if there is any other person who could give me more information about the boy. I could see Wayne trying to hesitate and pretended not to know any of the boys friends. I clearly saw from Waynes eyes that there was something fishy. This was something shocking because it led me to suspect Wayne too. I thought for a while, and got an idea. It was not good to give Wayne a chance over this. I decided to use issue a treat to him. I told Wayne that I had already known all their secrets and. Besides this, I had known all the activities they undertake, therefore it will be better if he clearly explain this. If he does not he will also be a victim of circumstance and he will land to the hands of law. The treat I issued to Wayne made him to tell me more about the boy. Ha said that the boy was rich and at one time, he had proposed to him that they engage in a certain business so that he also becomes rich. This statement stroke my head, I then become keen and inquired for more. Wayne went ahead and said that he actually did not know this business because the boy had a condition to this, He will only introduce him to the business if he was to agree the terms and condition of the business. Since Wayne was not ready to accept the terms and condition, he could not be introduced to the business. I pinned Wayne to the wall, but he insisted that he was not sure about the business. He said that he had noted something weird in that boy, Wayne had once sited on their balcony when he saw him snick out of their house with a bag on his back. He then moved a distance and made a transaction with a certain man. Before the end of that transaction, he saw the boy taking something like a cigarette from his pocket then lit it and smoked for a short time. He then went back to the house immediately after smoking. On the following day, Wayne asked him why he was engaging himself in the habit of smoking. The boy denied it completely and even demanded to know where Wayne saw him smoking. I met the parents of the boy for further investigation After gathering information to this point, without fulfilling my desire I now thought of moving to the next step. I took a step ahead to meet with the parents of the boy. I got his father then asked him to give me time to discuss over the issue. He was positive and allowed me a chance to discuss with him. I explained to him that I had noted something weird from his son. He was ready to listen to me. I now told him that I once come home and found my door ajar, only to find it was his son in my kitchen. Besides that, he had put aside my jewelry and he smelled marijuana. I told him that this scene was not pleasing and I decided to tell him to go away immediately and he did so. I explained to him that it was something annoying to find out that young boys engage in criminal activities. I therefore made an investigation in order to establish the criminal activity. He seemed to be afraid, but I went ahead and told him that I had carried an intensive investigation. From my investigation I had establish evidence that the boy was a criminal. I asked his father to make a decision on what to do in order to save him from crime. The fathers response was good. He said that he could not deny the fact that his son could be participating in criminal activities. He added that recently, he has been coming home too late and on asking him, he would say that he gone out to play with his friends. Another thing that he had noted was that his son took more time away from home. Lucky enough he was in when I came and he had not realized my presence in their house. His father called him. I questioned the boy concerning all the facts that I had established from the beginning of the investigation. The boy could not admit, I decided to use threats as a measure of identifying a criminal. I threatened to call a police, this was nothing to him and he still denied the charges of crime on him. His father and I come into an agreement; we agreed that we would make a search in his room. In the search, we got a bag containing marijuana and other types of drugs. Besides this, he also had dangerous weapons such as pistol and knife. His father was annoyed, because of his annoyance he decided to call the police. He said he was against crime and he would not tolerate it in his home. When the police come, we used the boy to carryout more investigation. We found out that there were other young boys participating in criminal activates. From the personal application of criminology, it is encouraged to learn about crime. This will help our society to grow physically, socially and morally upright. It helps people learn how to engage themselves in constructive activities instead of crime. Especially the youth, they are vulnerable and this becomes a basis of education to them.

Discussion Board 8, Chapter 10 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Discussion Board 8, Chapter 10 - Essay Example But our group leaders had a tendency to challenge our abilities. They would often ask us how we knew something was too complex without even trying to accomplish the instructions for the experiment. Our leader chose to validate our concerns by understanding our point of view and then negotiated with us regarding how we could complete the chosen experiment. That is how we would find ourselves working out the â€Å"complex† instructions and actually getting the work done. Then we would find out that it was never too â€Å"complex† at all. Then there was the time when I was part of the school dance committee. Our theme was 80s retro. The cost of our decorations were beginning to skyrocket and our class president would often remind us that our budget was running low. Luckily, we were a highly creative bunch in the group who knew that just because something was expensive, that did not mean we could not have it. Rather, it just meant that we would have to improvise instead, and improvise we did. By getting everyone involved in finding a solution to the problem, the result was a highly cooperative group that managed to pull off a school dance that looked expensive on a shoestring

The possibilities of one’s career development in today’s academic scenario depend mainly on one’s ability to write convincingly according to the requirements of academic writing. In this evaluative report, a detailed analysis of my academic writing skills demonstrated in Assignment 4 (Essay – final copy) is carried out and it builds upon the structure developed in Assignment 3 (Monitoring – report). ... xiii). Broadly, academic writing may refer to any type of writing done in an academic setting. Essay: An essay may be defined as a short academic composition on a specific topic, having components such as introduction, thesis statement, topic sentences, body paragraphs, conclusion, etc. Position Statement: A position statement can be defined as a type academic paper which clarifies or describes a specific arguable point of view. 2.0 ESSAY STRUCTURE An academic essay is an essential element of academic writing, and it assesses a student’s aptitude to present his thoughts and ideas in a structured manner. An effective essay writing process starts with collecting crucial ideas about the topic, and it is essential to present these ideas in an organized way. Thus, an essay should begin with introducing the thesis and the main arguments in an interesting way, and it should be developed logically through the body-paragraphs, ending with a logical conclusion. Therefore, there are thre e main segments in an essay, i.e. the introduction, the body and the conclusion. 2.1 Essay Introduction Analysis In this section, an analysis of the introduction of the ‘Monitoring – Essay’ is carried out. The introductory section of the essay is as follows: The rate of people developing type 2 diabetes is soaring in the western world; Type 2 Diabetes in recent times was typically regarded as a disease of the middle-aged and elderly. While it still is true that this age-group sustain a higher risk, evidence shows that diagnoses of this disease in people aged less than 30 years is accelerating and in fact becoming quite common. The Theory Of Parallelism

The Theory Of Parallelism Mind and body is considered as a separate form of human. By giving an example for mind such as sad, euphoria, angry or happy, it is considered as mind. A mind can be explained as what we called feeling. For our body, it can do things such as cycling, hiking, writing paperwork, and talking. We cannot see how large is our mind but we can see our body. So, we can conclude that body is a physical subject while mind is a mentally subject. Based on the older philosophy theory, the mind and body is not correlated. This theory is called as parallelism. What is parallelism? Based on thefreedictionary.com, parallelism is The doctrine that to every mental change there corresponds a concomitant but causally unconnected physical alteration. (thefreedictionary.com ,2009) The meaning is every changes that happened in our mind, doesnt affect our body while the changes in our body doesnt affect our mind. These two are independent against each other. For example, if were happy, it just a stimulation o f chemical in our body that is call endorphin. It is nothing related to our thinking. However, if we are saying that the mind and body are two different and independent things, we are no better than a machine or robot. The idea of Descartes theory has formed a mind and body problem. So what is mind and body problem? The problem is how does mind and body correlated to each other? According to Descartes philosophy, mind is a thinking thing while body is an extended thing. These two is somehow related to each other. To answer this question, Decartes has formed a philosophical theory called dualism. Based on Decartess dualism, body and mind is dependent against each other. The body needs the mind to tell them how to react and what to do and the mind needs the body as an object to express our thinking. However, if we said that there are connected to each other, but where is the connection between the mind and the body? There must some connection within the mind and body. The things that we think somehow affect our body and vice versa. Decartes solution is possible for mind/body problem. What he said was mind and body are connected and irrelevant to each other, but where is the bond that connects the mind and body? Do they even exist? We cant say that our body is connected by electrons or electromagnetic waves that generate within our body because electrons and electromagnetic waves is something that we can see and know for a long time through science. The connection between mind and body must not be visible to our naked eyes. If we use the theory of electrons as our proof of the existence; a scientist can manipulate the electrons that connect through our mind and body and extract the mind and put into someones body. The body must have a special code or something special to connect with the mind. We cant just move the mind into someones body to survive. If we can do that, we can escape the fact of death. When a person is about to die, just extract the electrons and put into someones body. According to Joseph Almog, he said that ..here is the kind of mind a mind is is stable in time. Given that Decartess Meditation is a human mind, it may not turn into an angelic or divine mind.. (Joseph Almog, 2002, pg 94). Mind provides use stability. Hence, there must be a connection that binds within a mind and a body of a person, and mind and body must be complete with each other. Besides that, if mind and body arent related just as what parallelism said, we can just live in this world without a body. The body basically is an extended thing. If I ask a normal person, what they think about mind. Basically they will just tell you something like mind is a soul, mental, or a spirit. So why dont we just live in this world just by using a soul? Isnt that our body is just a little an extra feature? When were dead, our body will be assumed as a corpse, our soul will be assumed as a spirit. Based on what I said before this about spirit and corpse, if dualism is not a solution for this, we can say that were just spirit living in a corpse body. We are no better than a zombie that doesnt have any feeling and emotion towards anything. It is basically just a walking corpse. As a result for that, to be called as a human or a living being, one must be exist with a package that contains mind and body. These two things arent divisible as they two are depending on each other. Ba sed on science, there is nothing such as zombie, spirit or recreation exists. However, the scientific reporting of the reality only provided evidence based on medical research investigating birthmarks and defects. (Casimir J. Bonk, contents pg xvii) This determines how we can deeply understand what an individual with thinking and physical are connected together. Apart from that, physical (body) must exist with mind (consciousness). A person wouldnt know what pain is, if the physical part of his body does not experience any pain before. For example, if a person touches a hot stove, he/she will feel the pain by pulling his/her hand. That person can scream too as an alert to show that we are in pain. However, the pain feeling will stays in our consciousness. For the next time, even when the stove if not hot, when we are going to touch it, there is a pain feeling in our mind. Besides that, if a person did not feel any pain before, will they know what is the meaning of pain is? They might just know the theory of pain but not exact consciousness of pain. Hence, it creates a conscious between mind and body about how we feel. In conclusion, I think Decartess dualism is the solution for mind and body problem. Mind must exist with the body and body must exist with mind to stay in what we called as a human being. Without any of them, we are just a dead corpse or a spirit. Hence, I think Decartes has one of the best solutions for this problem. Dying With Grace, Living in Peace: Hospice Care in America Essay

The beginning of life is celebrated. Books and resources are shared among friends and family in preparation for becoming a new parent. So, what happens as we approach the end of life? Unfortunately, the same care and sharing rarely occurs in those circumstances and many face the process of dying unprepared. In fact, though most people state they would prefer to die at home, this is often not where death occurs. Many Americans spend their last days attached to medical apparatus that keeps the body alive, but it does not allow for communication with family and often requires heavy sedation. Additionally, this level of treatment comes at a high price. As a society, we must become as comfortable in addressing the end of life process as we are with the beginning of life. One way that this can be done more effectively is through increased knowledge and use of hospice care. Hospice care is a viable option that provides substantial health care cost savings, physical comfort to the p atient, and emotional and spiritual support to the caregivers, however as hospice systems become more commercialized, care must be taken to avoid the pitfalls that are inherent in larger organizations. Hospice care is a relatively young option in the United States. In fact, the first hospice organization was founded in 1971 in the US after gaining acceptance in England in the 1950s (Jensen, 2012). Hospice care is provided to those who are diagnosed with a terminal condition that is expected to culminate in death within six months. Unlike regular health care which focuses on curative procedures, hospice services focus on the comfort of the patient in order to ease the process of dying. These services provide benefits to the patient and the caregive... ...NHPCO facts and figures: Hopice care in America. Alexandria, VA. Perry, J. E., & Stone, R. C. (2011). The Impact of Corporate Governance on Firm Performance in Mauritius

Introduction Corporate governance is a field in economics that investigates how to secure/motivate efficient management of corporations by the use of incentive mechanisms, such as contracts, organizational designs and legislation. This is often limited to the question of improving financial performance, for example, how the corporate owners can secure/motivate that the corporate managers will deliver a competitive rate of return. (Mathiesen, 2002). Another definition is â€Å"Corporate Governance is concerned with holding the balance between economic and social goals and between individual and communal goals. The corporate governance framework is there to encourage the efficient use of resources and equally to require accountability for the stewardship of those resources. The aim is to align as nearly as possible the interests of individuals, corporations and society† (Sir Adrian Cadbury in ‘Global Corporate Governance Forum', World Bank, 2000). According to La Porta et al. (2000) â€Å"corporate governance is to a certain extent a set of mechanisms through which outside investors protect themselves against expropriation by the insiders†. The problem is to see whether the corporate governance standards adopted by firms in Mauritius are positively, negatively or more affecting the firms’ performance. Research will be made on a sample of firms operating in Mauritius. Literature Review Related searches in other countries It has been argued that as ownership concentration increases, the incentives and the abilities of shareholders to properly monitor managers increase too. This creates beneficial effect for firms in the sense that performance or profitability improves (Morck et al. 1989)). There are studies which find that higher ownership concentration lead to detrimental effects for corporations in the sense that large blockholders and managers can collude to extract rents from small shareholders (Lehman and Weigand (2000)). The study by Demsetz and Villalonga (2001) provides evidence that there is no significant relation between ownership structure and firm performance. Chhaochharia and Grinstein (2007) looked a t the impact of the 2002 governance rules established by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act on firm value. They found that less compliant firms earn positive abnormal returns compared to more compliant firms. They also found that less compliant large firms earn positive abnormal returns but less compliant small firms earn negative abnormal returns. Bhagat and Bolton (2008) examined the relationship between corporate governance and performance, and found that better corporate governance, board members’ stock ownership, and CEO-Chair separation are positively related to operating performance. They also found that the probability of management turnover is positively related to board members’ stock ownership and board independence when firms perform poorly. Patibandla (2006) examined the ownership structure and firm performance on Indian firms by separating large investors into private foreignin stitutional investors and government-owned local financial institutions. Patibandla found a positive relationship between private foreign institutional investors and firm profitability and a negative relationship between government-owned local financial institutions and firm profitability. Selecting a Database for a Small Business Essay - 1076 Words

Jay-Star Incorporated is a small machine shop located in Lexington, Kentucky. There are only seven employees that actually work on the shop floor. Jay-Star produces metal core and distributes that core to various aerospace manufacturers. There are three different types of core that Jay-Star produces: Square Cell, Hexagonal Cell, and Beneflex Cell. Each of them can be produced using different materials from various shipping companies. The employees take these materials from the shipping company, produce the product, and then deliver the finished product to the aerospace manufacturer (customer). For a small company, Jay-Star keeps a very hectic schedule. Any miscalculation on shipping dates could be disastrous for the order†¦show more content†¦The last three tables are probably the most important in the database. The Orders, Product, and Order Line Items tables connect it all together. They show how each customer gets each product, how the product gets there, and when it is s upposed to arrive. They also show how much each product costs. The requirements of creating this database are to define the primary keys for each table and to show what order each table should be placed. The primary keys are simple. They are usually the number that defines each row in the table (i.e. EMPLOYEE_ID). It can either be part of the actual record itself , or it can be an artificial field (one that has no meaning other than being an identifier of the record) (Data Analytics Software). The order in which each table is created is based upon their relationships. The Customer, Shipper, and Employee tables all have a one-to-many relationship with the Orders table, so therefore, they are created first. A one-to-many relationship, in this example, is where one customer, shipper, or employee is associated with many orders (Pratt, Last p. 26). The first step in creating the database was defining each entity. Each entity would represent its own table. The entities that were established were Customer, Shippers, Employees, Orders, and Products. The next step was to determine a unique identifier for each entity. Identifiers, such as personal identification numbers, worker numbers, and license numbers, are used for identifying individualShow MoreRelatedThe Reliability Of Data Migration826 Words   |  4 PagesReliability of Data Migration Over many ago relational databases reside most of the data but after the introduction of NoSQL database had changed this procedure.
